I LOVED this book!!! I have read Tahereh Mafi's other stories like "Furthermore" and "Whichwood". Mafi's writing style is so delightful and imaginative, that I wanted to read her earlier stuff. And boy am I impressed. She has become my new favorite author.

I loved this book. Anyone that loves Divergent and/ or The Hunger Games will love this dystopian novel. This book is only the beginning of a series that when you finish will leave you needing more. I recommend this to anyone preferably over the age 12.

Shatter Me is a book that brings out a variety of emotions from the reader. Written intelligently through a technique known as ‘purple prose’, it almost would have worked out for me if the author hadn’t overdone it. The amount of prose used was excessive and eventually just got bleak and infuriating. Needless to say, the storyline was exquisite and I just wish it was written better. Imagine being a weapon, yet not knowing if it was a gift or a curse? Imagine not seeing, touching or knowing anyone but yourself for 264 days as you were kept in a prison? This was the life of Juliette, whose touch was fatal but nobody knew why. It wasn’t as though she was a murderer and found pleasure in it. She hated who she was, the looks her parents gave her as they called her a monster. It ruined her and everything she was, until she gets a companion in her prison cell. Finally, what Juliette has yearned for is given to her, but she worries that it is all a ploy to kill her. Initially afraid, and then reluctant, Juliette’s story broke my heart but at the same time allowed me to appreciate that her weakness was not the only aspect of her character. This may not be a series I will continue, but I may attempt to reread it again in the future despite the frolicking and random sentences that occur. If this author reconsiders her writing style, this can be the next book of the year. (Rating 2.5/5)

This was an exciting book the more I read it. There are mysteries that made me want to know why something happened, and although not all the questions get answered, it makes you want to continue the series. The characters are also very interesting and not quite who they seem at first, which makes the book even more intriguing to read.

I might be a bit biased in the negative for Shatter Me, as I tend to have a pretty high bar set for dystopian novels. It wasn't bad, it was just ok. Juliette, our main character, has the ability to kill with just the touch of her skin, and Warner and his crew are trying to use her to gain complete power in his dictatorship of a society. It's an interesting concept, and I love how she refuses to be shaped by the isolation she experienced as a child, but I just feel it wasn't as good as it could have been. The writing irked me for reasons that also probably aren't fair (Juliette spends most of the time in complete despair, which is realistic, but makes for a really dull read). The romance between Juliette and Adam is cheesy, but at least it isn't forced. I have no idea why people ship Juliette with Warner. He's just bad cheese. Anyway, I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys romance and teen dystopian reads.

I feel like I'm the only one who ships her with Warner... :p Adam is great and all, but I hope that Warner changes or something because Juliette doesn't try to understand him, which I get.

My favourite book of the year. I loved how the ater crosed out thoughts in the book to fit what's true or right for Juliette.

I am so glad that my friend introduced me to this book. It was honestly a really good book. It had special powers, military stuff, and some romance and betrayal. A bit of comedy here and there from my favorite character but mostly action. It's a great book and you just have to read it to understand what I'm raving about here.

“I don’t understand—why won’t you talk to me?
You sit in the corner all day and write in your book and look at everything but my face. You have so much to say to a piece of paper but I’m standing right here and you don’t even acknowledge me. Juliette, please—”

“I spent my life folded between the pages of books.
In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”
