lots of tension, twists and turns in an exciting read

Dec 11, 2012

A Texan’s Honor --- by Shelley Gray. Sometime in the post Civil War, somewhere in the great spaces of cold wintery Kansas, the Walton Gang have stopped the train heading east. In a robbery attempt gone wrong, hostages are taken, among them a young lady on her way back to St. Louis, to live with her two maiden aunts, her only surviving family. The hostage taking stretches on, hostages are executed, one at a time, their bodies left to freeze in the cold. The biting cold of a prairie snowstorm is palpable. The tension is charged with the electricity of the situation. Will Jamie also be shot; will she be kidnapped into the frozen night; will her virtue be stolen from her? The novel, though it is off to a slow start, picks up speed with remarkable alacrity. The hombres who are so threatening at first really do have hearts of gold, well at least silver: their hearts are not beyond reach. And that’s all I’m gonna say ‘bout this styory except that it’s well worth readin’.
