From Library Staff

What do you get when you cross Jane Austen’s "Persuasion" with a dystopian landscape in the wake of a devastating genetic experiment gone wrong? You get a beautiful romance that proves that life goes on among terrible circumstances.

A political love story about two runaway teenagers on the fringes of a high-end, futuristic society. A Jane Austen-like space tale set in the future.

Even knowing Jane Austen's Persuasion well, this version left me wondering what would happen next. I loved Elliot's growth as a character and her value of all human life.

This is a futuristic fantasy novel that is inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion. It is the perfect blend of romance, intrigue, technology and upheaval. Torn between duty and love, Elliot’s story is surprisingly sweet without getting sappy. (submitted by AH)

Book is suited well to J readers looking for a YA book. The author stretched a little into religion and history to create something that is not quite complete for an adult reader.

Between a slow start and my doubts about a post-apocalyptic teenage retelling of Jane Austen's Persuasion, I was skeptical at first, but Peterfreund drew me in the more I read. Rich both in nuanced characterizations and a sense both of the injustices and rationalizations of privilege. Horrible cover though.

I really really want to adore this book but there are a few things about it that I strongly dislike. Like toomanytacos, the leading man wasn't very present in the novel and I would have liked to also read more about him. The background of this book needed to be further developed I had a hard time understanding how the reduction worked exactly. I did like the idea the author had on how the apocalypse happened, quite innovated. I liked the inspiration the author took from Austen's Persuasion to develop the characters. Finally, I don't like the title of this book, it just doesn't fit for me.

Great book! I loved it so much that my mom had to take it away cause I wasn't getting any schoolwork done. :P
I wish Kai was in it more, and i didn't explain enough about the Reduction history, but an amazing all the same. I would definitely recommend it.

April 11,2013I read this book knowing that it was gonna be a hit or a miss from all the reviews i read and i gotta say it's a miss. The beginning was very slow and boring much like Elliot North's life. It started kicking in at the end which is very typical but i expected more of a dramatic, unexpected ending, it was kinda dissapointing. I'm not really into this book and therefore the author so i would not read any of her books ever

Was a really enjoyable read. Jane Austen meets Dystopia. Loved it!

An excellent retelling of Persuasion! The writing is strong and the characters are all realistically written and three dimensional. I loved it!
