Twenty-seven-year-old Joanna Kurtz has made several trips to the altar, but never as a bride. The single young Amish woman is a closet writer with a longing to be published something practically unheard of in her Lancaster County, Pennsylvania community. Yet Joanna's stories aren't her only secret. She also has a beau who is courting her from afar, unbeknownst even to her sister, Cora, who, though younger, seems to have suitors to spare. Eben Troyer is a responsible young Amish man who hopes to make Joanna Kurtz his bride, if he can ever leave his parents' farm in Shipshewana, Indiana. Yet with his only brother off in the English world, intent on a military career, Eben's hopes for building a life with his dear Joanna are dimming, and patience is wearing thin. Will Joanna ever be more than a bridesmaid?

This book is an amazing, inspiring, and breathtaking book. I really enjoyed reading about this book. I was able to relate to this book in more than one way. The author wrote this book in such a way that made it come realistic to me. Joanna never gave up and she kept trying to live the Amish way of life without disobeying any of the rules, even though she did write fiction stories which was against the Way. She gave up writing fiction after being found out so that she could live according to the Amish Way. Joanna also never gave up believing that someday she would become a wife even though she was already overage according to the Amish. She met a young man while being on a trip to Virginia. They wrote letters and made phone calls, they fell in love, and were torn a part for some problems in his family, but they never gave up on each other, without knowing, even though they said they were not a couple anymore. In the end, there is a surprise, so you should read this book to find out what happens.

Years ago I borrowed "The Shunning" from the library and I've been a big fan of Beverly Lewis every since. She is one of my "go to" authors. Really enjoyed "The Bridesmaid" and just saw "The Guardian" is ready for pick up. Can't wait!
