"Reading" this via an audio CD wherein, sadly, the narrator reads too fast. This should not seem like a race to the finish! Wishing this was not such a common problem with audio books.

Read this for book group - I enjoyed it in retrospect much more. Great discussion!

The Interestings, just wasn’t that interesting. It’s about a group of gifted, arty kids, who meet at summer camp in the mid 1970’s and become lifelong friends. Honestly, the lives of these people were fairly mundane, with some added twists. I think Wolitzer is a very good writer and I can appreciate the style of writing and what she was trying to accomplish, but the book lacked a plot, even though the characterizations were excellent. I could actually believe these were real people, living real, yet routine lives. I liked the book, but didn’t get swept by it.

I always thought it was the saddest and most devastating ending. How you could have these enormous dreams that never get met. How without knowing it you could just make yourself smaller over time. I don't want that to happen to me.
