This is both practical and idea-provoking. The floor plans are somewhat basic but easy to read, and the illustrations with arrows pointing out features, are quite useful. The text sections with recommendations and suggestions is far above most other books of this type.

I like how this book sorts the designs by square footage, so if you have a certain size in mind already, you know where to go. The designs were innovative, but not too modern, and there are LOTS of designs to look through. Out of all the (small) home design books in the library's collection, this is my favourite one so far.

Some of the designs and floor plans really caught my attention; others were less interesting. There is good advice concerning selecting sites, materials, green ideas, and space usage. I enjoyed dreaming about houses I would build if I could.
