An interesting book. Tella enters a competition to win the cure for her brother. This feels like the Hunger Games but Tella is less of a Katniss than I would hope. She seems helpless more often than she feels capable. Still, the writing was interesting and kept me turning the pages.

Hmmm……..Woah! All of a sudden I remembered exactly where I read this before! I'm pretty sure it was this über popular YA series called….The Hunger Games. Oh, there was also a tad bit of this popular reality TV series called The Amazing Race. I love that show, but it's best left a show. So on my actual review, I made this chart. And on this chart, I listed what Fire & Flood took from The Hunger Games. I came up with a lot of stuff.
1. Tella enters this race (I swear I forgot the name of the race every other minute) to SAVE HER BROTHER. I think I might've heard this before. 2. At the beginning of the race, each contestant gets a serpent pin. Okay, it's not a bird, but very similar. 3. Even the words spoken to the contestants are so similar. THG: "May the odds ever be in your favor." F&F: "May the best contestant win." These are only a few of the things I found, but there are many more. And then some of the similarities between The Amazing Race and Fire & FLood. 1. The clues. Instead of searching for clues, contestants are basically lazybums who get a device that tells them what to do. Not recommended. This is a pitiful attempt at a book. I'm not trying to trash it, but this book deserves it. How this could get published, I have no idea. At the end of all this, I have one message: The Hunger Games were here first. Stop being a copycat.

Violence: Nothing seriously gory. One guy's head is held under quicksand until he dies. Guy threatens to "end" somebody. Pandoras attack contestants by the orders of their owners.

Coarse Language: quite a bit of language, including pi---ed, f---, d---, sh---, h---, bi---h, and several missuses of God, Jesus, and Lord.
