Cole Randolph was just trying to have a fun time with his friends on Halloween (and maybe get to know Jenna Hunt a little better). A spooky haunted house turns out to be a portal to something creepy when Cole sees his friends whisked away to some mysterious place underneath the haunted house; he dives in after them, and ends up in The Outskirts. And once you come to the Outskirts, it's very hard to leave.

I had Read and Re-Read the Fablehaven Series at least a dozen time, and I had been itching to try this new book by the same author, and while I eventually gave up on getting the audio book, the hard copy of the book kept me up until 4am. I honestly can't wait for Book 5 to come out after cruising through the first four in two weeks tops.

I'm a long-time fan of Brandon Mull's work (since I read the Fablehaven series to my now adult kids when they were young) and this first book of this new series does NOT disappoint.
The first few chapters are kind of dark and depict children being kidnapped in large numbers by beings from another world and made into slaves in this new land, so it is not really suitable for young children or those who become easily frightened by such things. Having said that, the story gets much more hopeful starting when Cole discovers a talking smiley face put on the slave wagon by a boy named Liam....
If you're into fantasy realms and epic quests, this is a MUST READ.

Sky Raiders is the first in a new series by Brandon Mull. Cole and his friends are set to enjoy a fun Halloween, but when they go to a creepy old house they are abducted and taken to another world called the 'Outskirts.' to work as slaves. Consisting of 5 kingdoms, this world is ruled by a Master Shaper who is desperate to keep a hold on his dwindling power. Cole's new friends Jace, Mira and Twitch combine efforts to get closer to the Master Shaper so Cole can help his friends return home. A good audio book with an entertaining reader.
