This film was appropriately set in the 1930s in New York City. The art deco sets and vintage cars were terrific. Unfortunately, "The Shadow" was a box office failure when it was released in 1994. I think that there was too much mysticism in the plot and audiences didn't have enough background information to appreciate The Shadow character. A different screenwriter could have provided a pragmatic plot. The situation was exacerbated by the decision to adopt a campy style. If the actors had been directed to use a serious tone, then I think that this film would have had a chance at being successful at the box office. For fans of The Shadow radio plays of the late 1930s and 1940s (heard on the Those Old Radio Shows program on QR770 AM Radio in Calgary after 10:00 p.m.), I would rate "The Shadow" at 4.0 stars for attempting a comeback.

This is a great movie - Action & romance, visually interesting, well acted, lightly comedic and beautifully exotic music - not graphic but safe for kids - I loved it
My favorite dialog is:
Lamont - I've done terrible things.
Margot - I'm not afraid of you.
Lamont - but I am.
