By far my favourite Korra season, and what I would consider the climax and turning point of the entire series. It draws heavily upon Korra's actions in season 2 and leads to her plight in season 4.

The best part about this season are the villains, although I would say there were no where near enough episodes to get to know them better. Had the season been longer, I could see Zaheer winning a lot more fans the way Zuko had once we understood his background and history. Zaheer is presented to be an impressionable, intelligent and wise individual who would have been a formidable enemy in just the fact that it feels difficult to disagree with him, and what he says isn't necessarily untrue or evil. The bending capability of himself and his team is great too (they owned the Dai Li and White Lotus in like 2 minutes), making for many good matches. Also, hearing strong characters like Lynn actually fear them puts it into perspective. The fight at Zaofu was pretty cool!

After the villains, the extended cast is at its best in Season 3. There are 3 main new groups that are all well-written and are a pleasure to watch - the Aang siblings, the Airbenders, and the metal benders. All 3 have little mini-arch's this season which brings in a lot of human/family element. Jinora's character also shows much depth this season. The only complaint I would make is that Sue Beifong just had one too many kids, lol, so much so that none really get any decent development. I didn't even recognize that Bataar Jr existed until Season 4, and given his pivotal role there, it would have been great to see that character lay foundations in Season 3.

The portrayal of vulnerability this season was another major highlight. Seeing Tenzin walk the walk as fatherly protector was admirable. In response to Zaheer's demand to surrender where Zaheer warns Tenzin, "You don't have a choice," Tenzin cooly replies "Oh, I think I do," reminding the audience that Tenzin is just as much an airbending master in combat as he is an authority in the culture. That battle was badass and sad too, for you really do fear what would happen then to him and his brother and sister. Same with Lynn and Sue, and of course Korra. It felt like no one was safe.
