Call me a curmudgeon, but when I got to page 156 I was a wee perturbed to read " . . . a rare-book dealer would ask for proof of providence, so he must want it for his own collection,"
The word is "provenance" and I wonder where the editor was. Yes, there *is* a character in the book prone to malapropisms - but it's *not* the librarian, whose line this is. Aside from that pulling me out of the story, it was an ok read. I was surprised to see "waived" used instead of "waved" earlier in the book - but that seemed more of a typo and not quite so egregious.

This book was poorly edited and was obviously a first attempt at writing.

I really enjoyed this first book in a new series: Lighthouse library mystery. I do wish that the characters could have had more distinctive voices (distinctive from each other) as they do seem to all have a kind of sameness to them and yet I think they are distinct individuals. And I'd like that to be more obvious. Lucy is a bit more hesitant than I expected, which was a shame.
