This is the best and easiest plan I have ever used. I used to work for WW, and had been a Weight loss counselor as well. I got dentures 7 months ago and found this to help me start eating again. It was so easy. I could only eat soft food the first 2 mos, and with this plan I was able to stick to it. A new way of eating for the rest of my life, really never felt deprived, like I was on a diet..and no more cravings for carbs or sweets. It is really a dream come true. I spend a lot less on food now, as Amazon bought Whole Foods. Organic isn't expensive anymore..I recommend this to anyone who has had problems losing weight. I lost 25 lbs. and have been able to keep it off without a ton of exercise. This plan is the only plan that worked with minimal to no exercise. It's a miracle. And I can eat avocados and Peanut Butter (with no salt made by Vitamin Cottage ) 5 days a week. Awesome!, I gave it 5 stars! ( doesn't reflect that, ouch!) Whether you decide to actually fast or not this book is totally worth checking out just to read the first chapter or so where the author talks about our attitudes towards eating. It made me realize that we do not always need 3 meals a day and to eat when hungry, not because it is mealtime.

I watched the PBS special and decided to read the book. It covers all the studies shown in the special. The book is good as a guide for how to do the fast, not very good on recipes. There were personal tips on how to push past "hunger." I put it in quotes because many people tend to eat because they think they're hungry when really they are eating for another reason (bored, etc).

I have been doing this for exactly one month. I watched the PBS special, read the book and today am down 10 lbs!
I am elated! I don't believe in diets per say, but this is not only about losing the unhealthy fat but is designed to improve health on many levels. I'm not gonna say its easy on the fast days - but worth it and do-able when I consider the health benefits and the joy of the scale readings going down.

Since viewing Michael Mosley's PBS special 6 months ago about the 5-and-2 eating plan, my husband and I have been able to stick with it and achieve small improvements in weight and blood levels, which is very positive. However, I was disappointed by this book. I was hoping for some scientific support but got only loosely-related animal studies and anecdotal human results with many recipes based on too many calories to be useful for our 3-meal approach.The book is on par with an article in a monthly women's magazine instead of an article in a scientific journal - interesting but not factually convincing.

I love Micheal Mosleys idea about not fasting or dieting all the times, only 2x per week is good enough, you dont have to beat yourself up. Just watch your calorie intake and eat as healthy as you can for 2 days a week! Your body will thank you and you will probably live longer too! You will def feel better!

It's a compelling idea that worked for the author, but the science is not complete. Too often, the author says "so and so is doing a study now" or "no study has been done on this yet".

Some of his "testimonials" are people who have worked the program only for a week or two. To devote more than half the book to "testimonials", menus, and calorie counters shows how week the actual research is behind it.

It may work, but the way it is presented seems like it will be another "fad" diet.
