A promising debut novel by Lee Kelly - two sisters develop a new understanding of their world and their family in this near-future dystopian tale. The dual narrative may be confusing to readers at first, as the voices of the sisters seem very similar, but it leads to a worthwhile ending.

I liked the way the story slowly folded open presenting a wicked past. Although it annoyed me for the girls to be so immature even in this serious of situations. I understand they were sort of sheltered in a way, but it just seems like their emotions get way out of control for them being in life threatening circumstances.

Not simply an after the apocalypse novel, this story of a mother and 2 daughters continues to expand when the girls find their mother's diary.

"City of Savages" gradually moves from the accepted present day to a new reality of "now".

I really enjoyed the 2 different perspectives. I found the action was well-written and the ending was satisfying.

Wow! I can't remember the last time I read an entire book in less than 24 hours! What a great debut! There is so much awesomeness in this book yet I almost didn't read it. I checked it out but this book sat around for a week or so until I finally decided to give it a try instead of returning it early. There are some books you come across and get sucked in quickly. This is one of those. This was a perfect post-apocalyptic book. Don't let the sci-fi label scare you. It doesn't have to do with aliens or plagues, it was "real life" future. This book is raw, gritty, intense, and suspenseful. Told from the point of view of two teenage sisters, it will lead you through a journey you didn't even know you wanted to take. The author's writing quality of writing was flawless. Set in a perfect city for this wonderful plot with a cast of characters that are vivid and wonderfully brought to life by the author's writing. With as many books as I read, a lot of times authors' writing starts to seem all the same, but Lee Kelly's writing stole my booknerd heart. I look forward reading more from her.
