The main problem I had with this book was not the book's fault, so I didn't take it into account for my star review. The main problem for the main character to deal with is a disease that's sweeping his world. It's a little too familiar for a 2020 read.
Otherwise, I adored this book. The main character is an absolute genius. The book has a really good handle on math and science. There's enough of it that's a fun easter egg for people who like that kind of thing, but not so overwhelming that people who don't like it will have problems understanding. A really funny part was when the character used i in the equation F= Gm1m2/r^2 with a hilarious result!
I also really enjoyed the characters. The main character is a fun genius who cares about his family, but gets a little power hungry at times. His 'friend' is a hilariously gruff yet somewhat kind and sweet guard. There's also a fabulously fierce female side character.
All in all, I really liked this book. I would just recommend waiting to read it until you're in a space to deal with the disease portion of it. It hits a little too close to home right now.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked how the book focused on the love for family and friends. It was refreshing to read a book that did not revolve around the main characters romance. The book was very interesting. I enjoyed how she developed the two different worlds that are similar, but different. This is a great book for male tweens and teens.

So this was a very interesting book. It's refreshing to read a book with so little focus on romance and from a male prospective. She did a wonderful job mixing fantasy with reality. I also enjoyed that while it was at times a little predictable, there were also times when I had no idea what was going to happen.
