A former quiz-bowl captain myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the chapters alternating points of view between Ana and Zak. The plot is adventurous and over the top (maybe that's what's improbable), but the romance is sweet and low-key.

I was interested because of the quizbowl style competition aspect and it's pretty much wrong. That isn't how any high school quizzing competition actually works. And the story is otherwise pretty meh.

Ana’s parents keep her on a very short leash. She’s a senior, captain of the quiz bowl team and champion archer. Now Mrs. Brinkham has persuaded Zak, total slacker, to fill the vacancy on the quiz bowl in semifinal competition. This do-nothing could seriously wreck all Ana’s hard work. What could she possibly have in common with Zak?
If you like cosplay, you will be amused by the visit to a convention, which happens to be going on in the same city as the quiz bowl event. It’s a new experience for Ana but a familiar place to Zak.

Huh? All the people in this area who attend the cons religiously [hopefully not the new cannabis con, though] and still these books are on the shelves - - for comic, sf and dragon convention types everywhere!
A most delightful book, incorporating elements of unfortunate predatory capitalistic parenting most of us have witnessed at one time or another. Good to read something with at least a partial happy ending!
