Very well written. Lots of action. Great character development. It was slow in the beginning but brace yourself for quite an adventure.

One of the best books I have read in a long time. I wish I would have found it sooner!!!

What if you couldn't remember the first five years of your life? Couldn't remember your parents? What if you knew for some reason you didn’t belong? Never really fit in with the world around you? Darcy Jones does.

The Shadow Society is a deep mystery about finding one's self in the midst of something you can't control. Darcy is a conflicted teenager that has learned to disappear among her friends instead of stand out, at least until she meets Conn.

I must admit the first few chapters had me wondering where this book would head. Its plot as well as characters fill you with a state of intrigue, wanting to devour it quickly before the story 'ghosts' away. Brilliant writing with great use of art and classic literature to add depth. Well worth a read.

Offers action and romance in a science fiction package, while also asking us serious questions about our identity. Do others determine who we are, or do we find the answer within?

One of my personal favorites, definitely five stars.

Darcy Jones has been bouncing from foster home to foster home around Chicago for most of her short life. She remembers nothing from her early childhood. She has finally managed to spend more than a year with a foster parent and finally has some friends at her high school.

Little does Darcy know that there is an alternate world just like this one as well as an alternate Chicago. But in that world, the Great Chicago Fire never happened. In that world, The Shadow Society remains a deadly threat.

I really hope there will be a second book. With how things are left off, it can stand alone but it will always leave you questioning. Overall, it not half bad.

I liked this book a lot, especially how it started out as a normal high school story and quickly developed into a thrilling adventure in an alternate world. Action, romance, friendship and mystery, but managed to keep a sense of reality. Good characters and story, and my only complaint is the somewhat unsatisfying ending that leaves me doubting whether this is the end or there is to be a sequel. Overall, pretty great.

"The cityscapes are strange. When I look at them, I’m sure they’re some imginary city I’ve made up. Then I blink, and I’m convinced I’ve drawn parts of Chicago. Which is impossible. None of the images completely matches up with anyting I’ve seen." (page 41)
