Add a CommentI read this book after being recommended to it from a librarian, and I was truly fascinated! It's kind of like a twist between Cinderella and Hugo Cabret, which are two stories that I find interesting and fun to read! Quite compelling fairytale if I were to mention as well, haha!
I started reading this book, and it's kinda slow but I'm optimistic because it's gotta whole lotta mystery, and I'm sensing fun things to come into play in the future. Plus, there's an adorable girl-and-horse story right at the centre (just like a kindle toy) which made my heart melt. So I'm waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Reaching almost to the end I realize I'm never gonna get the answers I was looking for. And I'm so sad because what do I do with all this curiosity now?!
I loved this book! It is an awesome Cinderella story. I love the little glass horse, and the ending was amazing! I recommend it to anyone who likes Cinderella. It is so good, I think it should be a movie!
Fairytale retellings are always a treat. Best of all is when they are as surprising as Betsy Cornwell's steampunk feminist version of Cinderella.
An interesting young adult novel in that it reads much more formally than what you get from most YA authors today (think Julie Murphy and Angie Thomas). I think the tone might turn off some young readers who are more eager for a book that sounds conversational. This one does not, and contains little dialogue. I couldn't guess where it was going and kept reading for that reason, though I do wish Cornwell would work a little harder to affect my emotions throughout the novel. I'm interested in reading the second novel, Venturess, to learn more about the Ashes, Mechanica's friends, and the brewing Fey war.
