Caution---does not have "hard-of-hearing" captions. Very good story. I missed some dialogue but could follow story pretty well.

Epic film from a location and era not often seen these days in film. Follows the journey of Rob Cole from England to ancient Istfahan in Persia to study early awakening of medical science, when religious dogma of the Church, Islam, and Judaism did not allow autopsies of dead bodies. Fine performances by Ben Kingsley, Stellan Skarsgård, and lead, Tom Payne, highlight entertaining, if lengthy story.

VERY good movie. Don't make your decision based on the previous reviewer's words.

Adaptation of Noah Gordon's novel which followed an Englishman's arduous journey to Persia to study medicine, facing the usual 11th century malaise of prejudice, violence, diseases ... Note: English dialogue with Spanish subtitles ONLY. Sound quality is not so good and impossible to understand at times even with 2X the normal volume and after replay

A very nice and well done drama. Many argue the facts of the time period about how health care was provided or how discovery happened, some are upset about the use of Arabic language over Persian language or how the mullahs get a bad wrap etc... I enjoyed it for what it is- curiosity, hope, exploration, and discovery.

Agree with Aladar regarding difficulty in following everything with poor sound and lack of subtitles, which would have made it tolerable.

Based on the book by Noah Gordon. Read the book. This 'movie' was awful & hardly conveys the epic story. Sound quality? I might as well have muted it, as I rarely understood any word spoken. Considering he wrote this many years ago I wondered why the timing of making & releasing it now. What a waste of great talent.

Bad sound quality and no Subtitles made this hard to follow. The sets and cinematography were very good however; especially many of the night scenes set against an awesome Moon and Star filled skies.

colorful and entertaining with a superb cast. Gorgeous scenery and costumes, and captivating score. Often gruesome and bloody but not distractedly so.

Best line: "We don't treat diseases, we treat the people who suffer from diseases." How different from medicine today.
