Dramatization of Hammett's famous work remains faithful to the original. Sam Spade, a slightly shop-worn private eye with his own solitary code of ethics; a perfumed grifter named Joel Cairo; a fat man named Gutman; and Brigid O'Shaughnessy, a beautiful and treacherous woman whose loyalties shift at the drop of a dime. These are the ingredients of the novel that has haunted three generations of readers.

The Maltese Falcon is probably the best known of the Sam Spade stories. This is a real gem. The language, situations, and changes in fortune make this book an outstanding read.

Audio in play form, not read by...lots of sound effects kind of jarred by ears. Hammett is considered the primo of early detective/crime writers. His life story is more interesting than his writing.
