Ten years ago, Harry Warden murdered twenty-two people with a pickaxe. Tom returns to his hometown on the anniversary of the Valentine's night massacre. Instead of a homecoming, however, Tom finds himself suspected of committing the murders instead of Harry. The only person who seems to believe he is innocent is his old girlfriend. Now, something has returned to the town of Harmony. Wearing a miner's mask and armed with a pickaxe, an unstoppable killer is on the loose and the townspeople realize that it just might be Harry who's come back.

Rubbish. AKA: "My Cruddy Pantomime". One star for 'Sarah', the good looking red-head.

This one is hard for me. The original was the first horror movie to scare the stuffing outta me. But i thought they did a decent job at retelling the story. Was it the best? Not by a long shot. Was it better than the original? Wellll i'll be honest, had i not seen the original as a kid i would say "of course, anything is better than the original". I do wish they hadn't made it 3D. That always seems to have the reverse effect on me, rather than adding to the story, it takes me out of it.

3-D remake or not, this actually could have made a decent slasher film. It has all the staples of the genre: a cool-looking killer, beautiful women who lack modesty, and an intriguing premise to stretch out into a feature-length killing spree. If only they had chosen a better screen-writer...
Well, as it is, this movie is a mess. Instead of a real story, every single cliché known to the horror genre is put in play. Flat, interchangeable characters make painfully hollow small talk while waiting to die. The only moment I truly enjoyed was when a side character, played by the writer himself, got a pickaxe to the head; it was a richly deserved death.
If you want a GOOD slasher movie about a miner killing people on Valentine's Day, I advise you to look for the original film, which is also in the NYPL.
