Wow, this is a strange movie. Much of the film is a classic western tale about endurance and responsibility. But the villains are semi-supernatural. And there’s some very harsh violence. But there’s also some gentle humor. But it's also a horror movie at times. And most unusually for a modern Hollywood movie, the characters have personalities and it’s fun to watch them interact even when not much is happening. Though most are not big stars, Bone Tomahawk also benefits from a terrific cast. I will watch just about anything Kurt Russell is in, and Richard Jenkins is always good. The best part of the movie is the opening scene in which they have a long conversation about soup. I’d happily watch a whole movie version of just that scene.

I really had high expectations for this movie; it appeared that there was finally a horror movie using the Wild West as a backdrop and it appeared to have a relatively solid cast led by Kurt Russell but personally that's all it had to offer for me. A large portion of the movie involves the heroes leisurely riding to the cannibals hideout and while they could have used this runtime to build decent atmosphere or suspense, they instead decided to Tarantino the script and have the cast just speak do and face things that have nothing to do with the main plot until the last 20 or so minutes where they fight and escape the cannibals who, surprisingly didn't offend me (I'm part cree from my mothers side) but rather disappointed me as there were many real cannibalistic tribes like the Anasazi and Mexicas who would have been far more horrifying than these bland losers. Overall if you want to see this done better, watch something like The Hills Have Eyes or no country for old men or even better yet; pick up a book and read Blood Meriden by Cormac Macarthy.

We started it and ended up pushing forward to see what happens. A bit slow for us not much of a plot. Ending was gruesome and graphic. I would also call it a low budget movie.

Good acting, interesting dialogue, sense of dread and ever-present danger can't overcome script that runs at least 15 minutes too long

A treat, if you like good dialogue and gore dished up by cave-dwelling cannibals. Zahler knows how to deliver a satisfying movie.

Really good movie: directing, cinematography, acting, editing, etc but...some scenes are so graphic. Not for the faint of heart for sure. Great movie, but do watch it after dinner...not before a meal. I didn't see why it had to be so graphic...sort of took away from the movie's finer points, but overall a great movie to watch with friends and family...but not a date movie.

Good modern Western- it is brutal though and contains graphic violence so consider yourself warned- the dialogue is quite witty, and the film has a stellar cast. Definitely watch this movie instead of Tarantino's woeful " Hateful 8 " ( both star Kurt Russell incidentally ).

Like a Hills Have Eyes the Western... It does start off good and then just falls apart. 90% boring and 10% shock value. I'm fine with graphic violence, but it was for purely shock value and not plot reasons. It just was a bad film all around.

I usually enjoy watching Westerns. In this one, the dialogue was entertaining during most of the movie and the acting was also good, but this one was a bit too gruesome for me.

I am no stranger to violence in a movie, but I do have to say that the other comments I have read are right on the mark. The one scene in particular, and I won't spoil it for those of you who do want to see it, is absolutely the most gruesome scene that I have ever watched in a movie! Good luck and don't have anything to eat before you watch this.

"Say goodbye to my wife. I'll say hello to yours." ... says Sheriff Franklin Hunt (Kurt Russell) to Chicory (Richard Jenkins).

Mar 06, 2016

Here are some already in IMDb:
Sheriff Franklin Hunt: Say goodbye to my wife. I'll say hello to yours.
John Brooder: Smart men don't get married.
Chicory: You know, I know the world's supposed to be round, but I'm not so sure about this part.
Sheriff Franklin Hunt: Pain is how your body talks to you. You'd do well to listen to it.
Buddy: This is not the time for womanly imaginings.

The worst movie ever made by Hollywood. Shame on Kurt Russell and other actors to participate in this gory fiction movie. Children should not watch this brainless movie.
