I wanted to like this more than I did. It's stylish, but the motivations for why anyone did anything was awfully muddy. Also, the world-building felt like the author said, "Yeah, Buffy the Vampire Slayer exists, they'll buy this." Ultimately, I didn't.

I liked this book, it was full of action and quite funny. I thought the ending lacked something, I'm not sure what but I found I could not invest in it the way I did for the first 3/4. A read-a-like-ish for The Rook.

Essentially a teenage superpower action comic without any illustrations. Misogynistic.

Buffy meets Kill Bill in this great, fast-paced story about renegade female assassins taking on their 9-5 working, office drone female assassin counterparts. I didn't love the characterization of the main characters at the beginning of the story - mostly, the teenage main character is borderline offensive to teens - but it gets better. This one is a ton of fun.

It wants desperately to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Veronica Mars but Gonzales can’t keep up the witty repartee and pop-culture quotes and thus comes off as cute rather than edgy or smart. Pleasant, but not memorable bit of pop fluff.

I found this book to be pretty disappointing. Good setup and some interesting details, but the author obviously had no idea what to do with them or how to resolve the book.

Think Die Hard with female assassins and robots! What's not to love?!

A bit of a parody of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" tropes found in some paranormal fiction, this book stretches a bit further and adds some interesting characterization to the standard company of characters.

My first thought was that I was not the intended audience of this book. Fights that lasted several chapter and lots of bad language. Explosions and robots and all sorts of weird stuff. It reads like a Joss Whedon TV show. But the writing was wonderful and the characters surprisingly complex and before I knew it I was having too much fun to quit. This book was a delightful summer read, just so fun.

Character voices in this novel are fantastic. Rose: gifted and impatient (which is to say, a teenager) is the leader of an all out attack against the Regional Office; standing in her way is loyal Sarah and her mechanical arm. You'll root for both of these characters before the book's end.

As we left the copy room, we congratulated ourselves on not just our escape but on how in sync we were with each other, and how good our instincts were, how we should've been spies or special agents ourselves, and, busy congratulating ourselves, we were surprised when one of the goons grabbed one of us--Carl from accounting--and socked him over the head with the butt of a pistol, and only because Carl was so wide and the hallway so narrow were the rest of us able to keep running despite the two other guys who brained Carl.
