Clever whodunnit setup and a very entertaining heroine. It was fun to ride along with Kitty on her adventures and misadventures in pre-WWI New York City, as she attempts to forge a career path at a daily newspaper. Some of the writing is rather clunky - too much dialogue, and way, way to much historical trivia, as though the writer felt pressured to display the depth of her research. But I look forward to reading more of the series, to see how Kitty thrives and changes in the era of the "Great War".

I feel this type of tale has been better done for old time-y mystery solvers, like in the Deanna Rayburns, or Rhys Bowens, but it's alright. Kitty Weeks wants to be a journalist although all the menfolk feel she cannot do it due to being a ladyperson. Then murder most foul occurs, and it's up to the plucky lead to solve it. It's not bad, so here's hoping later bits of the series pick up.

Really enjoyed this book. The author did a great job on her first novel and am looking forward to more from her.

EXCELLENT !!! Her 1st book. Read more once others are written. Great banter, terrific plot, lots of real history just before World War I.
