This is a 1999 American fantasy-crime drama directed by Frank Darabont, based on the 1996 Stephen King novel of the same name.
The film tells the story of Paul's life as a death row corrections officer during the Great Depression in the United States, and the supernatural events he witnessed.
Although I don't believe in supernatural power, this movie is well-crafted so that anybody could be moved and fascinated by John Coffey's magic power.

I read this when it was in serial form and liked it. I had my own idea of what the lead man looked like and it wasn't Tom Hanks. The movie was excellent and helped me visualize stuff in the book that had me wondering about, but at first, couldn't get over Tom Hanks being in the lead role, and I don't have a thing against Tom Hanks, his face is probably too boyish for what I pictured Paul looked like. Now that I've seen it a few times, I still can't get over Tom Hanks in the role, but it doesn't bother me as much since the movie is really good. I still cry and still have all the emotions I did when I first read the serials, and saw the movie the first time. As a matter of fact, I'm checking it out again to see it. One of several movies that I will bother to see again and again.

This is a 3-hour long prison drama. Acting is good by all and, despite its length, it is a very engaging drama. I personally think this can be a better, a more humane film if we don't have to deal with the 'miracle' aspect of it.

I read this book many years ago when it was released in 6 parts. I don't remember if I finished it or not but I was certainly glad I saw the movie. It was very inspiring and touching. It really made you think. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful story, casting and performace lead by Tom Hanks. I liked David Morse, found Michael Clarke Duncan convincing and Hanks great.

Excellent movie. Apart from the slight departure into supernatural territory which I can ignore (since that is sort of what it is about), it is otherwise an excellent and gripping production.

Tom Hanks' 2nd best film, after Road to Perdition. Another wonderful soundtrack from Thomas Newman.

Old Paul Edgecomb: They usually call death row the Last Mile, but we called ours the Green Mile, because the floor was the color of faded limes. We had the electric chair then. Old Sparky, we called it. I've lived a lot of years, Ellie, but 1935 takes the prize. That was the year I had the worst urinary infection of my life. That was also the year of John Coffey and the two dead girls.

Paul Edgecomb: Your name is John Coffey?
John Coffey: Yes sir boss. Like the drink, only not spelled the same.
Paul Edgecomb: Oh, you can spell can you?
John Coffey: Just my name boss

Frightening or Intense Scenes: There is a scene in which an execution by electrocution got prolonged, very prolonged. This may be hard to watch for the young and the more sensitive viewers.
