Gospels were written to persuade people of the truth of new revelation from the God of Israel, often identified as the God of all people. 4 gospels remain in the canon. Of those, Mark, for example, makes no reference to what we think of as the Christmas story, beginning with references to John the baptizer. To find tales of young Jesus making birds of clay come to life, you need to go outside the canon, to other, perhaps gnostic, gospels. In doing so, this film stimulates one to think of a character at a young age who finds he has powers no one else has. One might find oneself more persuaded to accept the miraculous aspects of biblical reports with notions of this early life as a foundation. It might be thought weird that Ann Rice, noted for treating vampire lore as well as erotica has written the source material for this, and a sequel. Others have blown off the notion that this is well researched, but I think they are incorrect.

A better watch than I was anticipating based on what others have told me. It does raise some questions which some people might be uncomfortable with but are nevertheless worth thinking about.

Original plausible story that most of us wondered about. Great finish that peoples from all faiths can relate to. See "Quotes."

A different slant on the early life Jesus Those Romans were butchers and afraid of the Jews strength as they multiplied. Crucifixion is the worst punishment. Movie way too long. Cant follow dialogue when they whisper or speak in muffled tones.

Interesting. There is not much on the early years of Christ. Nothing new which you don't already know.

Once I got past biblical characters speaking with proper British accents, it is a lovely movie. Acting is quite good and the location filming is excellent. It's an interesting perspective on how it might/could have been.

Poor. Not biblical.

A story of how things could have happened in the unknown early childhood of Jesus. The Son of God was fully human, and struggled and grew into adulthood as any man. Very powerful and entertaining.

This movie is based on Anne Rice's book, "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt." The book was excellent and very well researched and written. The movie is also very well done and made quite believable and accurate to the time period. Anne Rice has also written a sequel to this first book, "Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana." It is also very well researched and written. I recommend both the books and the movie. There are some graphic scenes of violence in the movie, so it would be more appropriate for a child 13 and up.

I was apprehensive about a speculative kind of movie that explores what Jesus would have been like as a child but I feel that they pulled it off quite remarkably and tastefully.

***Spoiler Alert*** Some quotes in IMDb but not this one:
I've learned so much since leaving Egypt. I know everything I can for today. I even know I'm going to die. I used to wonder if angels would come to me, if they would sing to me, if they would fill my dreams. There is still so much that I don't know, but I do know this. I don't think I'm here to see
angels or to hear them sing. And I don't think I'm here to make it rainy or sunny or anything like that. I think I'm here just to be alive. To see it, hear it, feel it, all of it. Even when it hurts. Someday you will tell me why else I'm here. I don't know when, but you will. I know that. Because, Father,
I am your child.
