Opinion

From Library Staff

Even though it is very different from the book, this adventure is more fun and centers around friendship and family in a way the book doesn’t.

Toothless is so CUTE! I've watched this movie so many times I at one time had most of the lines memorized. HTTYD is on my top ten favorite movie list! Also T J Miller does Tuff Nut's voice. I have read about 10 minutes worth of one of the books, it was dreary. The awesome thing about this movie is it leaves a ton of story left to be told by Defenders and Riders of Berk, and Race to the Edge. Both all three of those series are awesome and hilarious, and if there are some Race to the Edge DVDs out there, I suggest the Library pick up some copies, they would be extremely popular.

A young boy named Hiccup aspires to be a dragon killer. As the name suggests, dragon killers fight dragons. During an invasion that occurs one day, Hiccup sets out by himself to go take down some dragons. He shoots something down from the sky, and later goes to look for it in the woods. He finds a rare dragon which he intends to kill. However, he has a change of heart and decides not to kill it. A close friendship blossoms between him and the dragon, which he names Toothless. Perhaps Hiccup can help the Vikings and dragons end their fighting and become friends like Toothless and himself.

How to Train your Dragon is definitely one of my favourite movies. The story is centered around a teenager from the island of Berk named Hiccup, he aspires to join the rest of the vikings to fight against the dragons that continuously assault his village. However his father, Stoik the village leader, would not allow his small and weak son to hunt dragons with them. Regardless of his father's opinions, Hiccup uses his invention and manages to catch a Nightfury one night during the dragon's invasion. Hiccup successfully brought the dragon down but he couldn't bring himself to kill it. Instead he brings the Nightfury home and names him Toothless. How to Train your Dragon also has amazing animation, I would recommend you to give this movie a watch!

This movie is so much fun! Good family movie with a familiar plot. True, the movie is almost nothing like the book. The character names are the same but just about every thing else is completely different. I liked the book. I loved the movie. Usually for me it's the other way around.

This movie was terrible. it did not adhere to the books in any way shape or form. this movie takes a wonderful, well thought out, and funny book series and turns it into trash. the movie is completely opposite from the book. in the book the Vikings whole culture is centered around the training of dragons. in the book, fishlegs was skinny and utterly inept. in the book the dragons were too small to ride. snotface snotlout had a massive nose and always beat up fishlegs and hiccup. and what happned to the amazing character of Alvin the Trecherous. and why are there no more tribes? and why is camacazi tall? and the Vikings are not Viking-like. they are all bumbling idiots. and hiccup was supposed to get an incredibly small toothless common garden dragon. this movie is complete garbage. books were better.

How To Train Your Dragon is one of my favourite animated movies. It shows the story of a young boy named Hiccup growing up on an island full of savage dragons and savage Vikings. His greatest desire is to kill a dragon. And one day, he has his chance. A great dragon battle is raging throughout Hiccup’s village. He shoots down the fastest and most terrifying dragon, a Night Fury. When he finds it in the woods still alive, his life changes forever. This movie is good for all ages, and will have you laughing out loud.

How to train your dragon is a 2010 animated-adventure and a comedy film. The film is about a clever young Viking. It includes some fantasy violence and potentially frightening images of dragons which could scare some young movie-goers. Viking village, looks a lot like the hillside halls of Rohan in Lord of the Rings. Their enemy is a horde of fire breathing dragons who raid their homes, almost nightly, snatching livestock and burning everything in sight. Anyone else would have moved long ago, but they’re Vikings, and stubbornness comes with the territory. The dragons attack the Viking village causing mass destruction and in couple of cases they cripple characters.
Hiccup is far less Viking than the norm and he’s not much good at fighting or staring danger in the eye. Still he wants to fit in and he is desperate to prove himself. He always tries to discover something unexpected. Hiccup finds his dragon trapped and injured. Unable to kill the animal he free him and eventually learn to ride him. The whole movie focus on the relation between Hiccup and Toothless. Toothless, is a brilliant piece of animation. He’s drawn in the mold of DreamWorks Animation’s intentionally cartoony style but they use movement to give him a life beyond a few silly pixels. It’s easy to imagine Toothless as your own loyal dragon.
I have watched this film several times and never got bored. It is filled with great characters. It is an amazing experience to watch this film in Cinema. The 3D is amazing and at times Breathtaking. If I ever get a chance to see it again I will surely watch it. The script is really good and is has a lot of dramatic depth. The film is suitable for everyone. Adult and kids will enjoy it equally and will love it at the end. The kids will surely learn the value of cooperation, teamwork, and seeing beyond the surface of a situation. How to train your dragon soars to epic height. It is the best work of Dream Work’s after KANG Fu panda. This film will be most recognized for its beautiful animation.

I hate movies that have a story about vikings, and this movie didn't do something new with the "vikings" idea. This movie is just to fill a blank space that you have on a Sunday after finishing the chores and the homework and feeling sad because the weekend has ended too fast and tomorrow you will have to be ready to be in a boring classroom hearing silly jokes from your science teacher and doing unfinished assignments... this is what this movie is for. I'm sure that the kids will like it but as a teenager, this is my opinion. I don't want my opinion to stop kids from watching the movie. My opinion was for the teens only and if I've watched a very boring movie, even for kids, I will say so in my movie review. I give this movie 3.5/10.

Hiccup a young viking who is less than viking-like wants to fit in with the village so he sets out to hunt and capture the deadliest dragon known to man.

He later realizes that it's his difference that make him special and great.

Also, the dragons behave like cats. This resulted in feelings of disappointment toward my tiny, wingless cat. I know it's not her fault but it would be great if she just started flying or something.
