This book has some great writing, speaking from a first-person view of living in ancient Babylonia. The illustrations, though, leave a lot to be desired. It relies entirely on reproductions from paintings and illustrations which are neither from the period, nor accurate, just ahistorical depictions of the Tower of Babel. They aren't very suited to printing either. A busy panorama rendered in oil on canvas just looks blurry and inscrutable in print. On the more awesome side is directions in the back for making bread and a sundial, two hands-on reminders of some of the gifts of Babylonian civilization.
