An Australian novel of a small town cop who is despised by his fellow staff and the locals alike. Sent to the isolated rural location as a result of his narking on his fellow corrupt cops in Adelaide. Quite a gripping story - an unputtable down book for a rainy afternoon. An easy read with twists and turns, dark undercurrents amongst the local population and hatred shown toward the new cop bring the story to it's climatic, but predictable, conclusion. And that's my main beef with crime novels - all the loose ends are neatly tied off and often, but not in this case, explained to you as though you, the reader, can't figure it for yourself. However, because life is generally not that neat and tidy crime novels can be a good escape from the unpredictability of daily living.
