I do like Regency books. Regency books done well can whisk the reader into the time of pretentious high society, etiquette , grand halls, and luxurious gowns. I did enjoy this book by Ladd. It was a story of a young woman walking into her destiny despite a malicious conspiracy. I thought the heroine, Isabel was well developed. The beautiful heroine was caring and forgiving but also transparent. The hero Colin was like everything a young woman desires in man: humble, honest, hardworking and handsome. Colin was relentless to uncover the "mystery" surrounding Emberwilde forest which also affected Isabel. Of course their paths cross and destiny could not be stopped. I thought that the hero could have been more discreet in his quest for answers. Also, the discussions of the forest being "haunted" seemed to be a useless and distracting tangent in the book. However, the overall story was well written and I did enjoy it well enough.
