I LOVE this book. Scarlet and Wolf are my OTP. I love how Scarlet loves Wolf dispite his genetic alterations. I also love the book, I love this much more than Cinder. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Cinder a lot too.

Oh my goodness, I freaking LOVED this book. It was so much better than Cinder- the storyline was faster paced, and more characters were introduced. Scarlet's and Wolf's stories merged so seamlessly with Cinder's that their presence never felt shoehorned in or unnecessary. There are several storylines happening at once, and Meyer jumps back and forth between them with ease- the reader is never confused as to what's going on.
All of the female characters in this series so far are strong ones- everyone from Scarlet's grandmother to the queen herself are empowered, brave, strong and self-sufficient. Scarlet does rely on Wolf, but she is highly capable in her own right. The romance between the two is believable and sweet (and I can't wait to see it continue in the next two books!)
I tend to really enjoy fairy tale retellings, and this series is no different. I love seeing the classic stories turned on their heads and given a new refreshing twist. Seeing as how I finished this book in 6 days, I might just have to dive right into the next one.

Characters: 8/10
Plot: 9/10
Writing: 10/10
For whatever reason, this is my least favorite of the Lunar Chronicles. Maybe it’s just because it *verges* on a supernatural romance, and I have certain prejudices in that category. Maybe it’s because Scarlet is closer to the stereotypically angry, rebellious teenage protagonist common in YA. Maybe it’s because it felt a little far removed from the plot of Cinder. Whatever it was, it’s still a wonderful book with a fun new couple and intriguing developments in the series plot, and worth churning through to get to the next installment.

I didn't like this one as much as I liked some of the other stories in the series, it was good and I definitely enjoyed it but I think it moved a little slow maybe. Even saying this though I would read it again in heartbeat.

Not as good as Cinder, but still a great read.

This continues the story of Cinder from the first installment of the series, while also mixing in the story of Scarlet and Wolf which is, obviously, a Little Red Riding Hood retelling. I like a lot of things about this series – I like that Meyer leans harder into the sci-fi elements of this than a lot of popular YA series do (spaceships! A lunar colony! Cyborgs! Etc.) and I also enjoy how she continues the stories of the characters from the first book (which was, of course, a Cinderella retelling) while adding a different fairy tale retelling to this one. I also just really liked Scarlet and Wolf, a lot. It’s easy for me to see why this series has been so popular – it’s a lot of fun.

This was much better for me than Cinder. I liked Cinder, don't get me wrong, but this story was much more developed IMO.

Scarlet was a fantastic character. She was witty and loyal and didn't pretend to be something she wasn't. I loved the twist on the fairy tale base here with her working alongside Wolf to save Grandma instead of being adversaries.

And Wolf....how I loved Wolf. His inner struggles that we only get to glimpse but can clearly feel were a great part of this story. I loved the characters strong, dangerous flair while still being a bit awkward around Scarlet. It fit the character and made him relate able and charming in his shy way. I do feel that the trust/relationship developed a bit quickly but I can suspend disbelief considering the circumstances. I am just hoping that in the other books in this series the bond is developed deeper between them.

Cinder had a lot of growth in here. She is coming to terms with her identity and trying to find a path forward, but she isn't jumping to forget her beginnings. I liked that she struggled with the use of her gift. That she felt torn about how to employ it, and whether to employ it.

Thorne was fun for me as well though I wish we got a bit more from him. Hopefully in the next book we'll get to explore his personality a bit more and dive into his cocky attitude.

These books kinda stress me out, to be honest. I mean, I've yet to meet a "twist" that I didn't see coming, but... they still stress me out. Like, a lot.

BUT DUDE I REALLY LIKE SCARLET AND WOLF.

I was also REALLY relieved that the characters from Cinder were part of this book. As I said in my review of Cinder, I'd originally thought each book was going to be self-contained so I was FLIPPING OUT when it ended on such a cliffhanger. When people assured me, "You still hear about the other characters in later novels" I thought it was going to just be in passing. But THANKFULLY they were actually a PART of the narrative.

Also did I mention I REALLY LIKE SCARLET AND WOLF?
