A small Irish village is mystified by what appears to be a miracle but may actually be murder in the next masterpiece from New York Times bestselling author Emma Donoghue. In Emma Donoghue's latest, an English nurse brought to a small Irish village to observe what appears to be a miracle--a girl said to have survived without food for months--soon finds herself fighting to save the child's life.Tourists flock to the cabin of eleven-year-old Anna O'Donnell, who believes herself to be living off manna from heaven, and a journalist is sent to cover the sensation. Lib Wright, a veteran of Florence Nightingale's Crimean campaign, is hired to keep watch over the girl.Written with all the propulsive tension that made Room a huge bestseller, The Wonder works beautifully on many levels--a tale of two strangers who transform each other's lives, a powerful psychological thriller, and a story of love pitted against evil.

Difficult subject matter which is only made worse by the reader of this audio. Although I appreciate the use of different voice tones and levels of English and Irish accents, some of audio was difficult to understand. Additionally, many times when the reader spoke in a whisper it was so faint, I couldn't hear her at all. May be a better read than listen.

The crux of this story surrounds what everyone in this small Irish village believe to be a child's amazing ability to survive without food. Her faith and religious beliefs would have you believes that she is existing solely on Spiritual Manna from Heaven; a food source provided by her god. An English nurse is summoned by a panel of Catholic leaders who want to verify this. She is given two weeks to prove it beyond a shadow of doubt. What she discovers changes her in ways she cannot imagine.
