loved that it is based right here in Monument, CO. Fun to see local references throughout the book. seemed actually plausible. had to read all 3 in the series because I had to know if they made it out alive - kept me engaged.

This was a great followup to Monument 14. The fourteen kids are now split up with brothers Alex and Dean in different groups. We are able to view what each group is doing through the alternate POV of the two brothers. I loved the mix of happy endings with hints of future doom. Will the group in the bus make it to the evac point? Will the group in the Greenway be rescued?

I found this story to be believable and terrifying. I enjoyed having a teenage boy as the narrator and view the disaster and the aftermath through his eyes. The Greenway was a great place to be stranded and it was interesting to see how the kids were able to organize and use the resources available to them. Looking forward to Book 2!

The second novel of this trilogy did not disappoint. We see a greater development of the characters as they have to deal with an increasingly violent world in turmoil.

This first novel of the trilogy was a hard to put down page turner, as we see an apocalyptic event through the eyes of a group of school children.

This was such an interesting concept, and it was executed really, really well. All action and suspense. You'll be hooked by page three, no question about it. I found both the writing style and basic plot to be very similar to Susan Beth Pfeffer's Life As We Knew It.

I love how the author created chapters alternating in Dean and Alex's point of view because it allowed the adventures in the superstore and on the road to appear to be occurring simultaneously. This sequel to Monument 14 is every bit as interesting, romantic, and funny.

This is an exciting and suspenseful story with bits of humor and seriousness mixed together to create a novel that you just can't put down. I also love how original the setting for this book is. After reading Monument 14, I am convinced a superstore is the best place to weather any natural disaster. Or chemical warfare. (Or both.)

After the cliffhanger ending in which Dean did not depart with the other kids to Denver International Airport in their school bus but decided to stay behind to take care of Astrid, Sky on Fire picks the story back up. Can the kids on the bus reach Denver International Airport in time to save Brayden's life? Can the superstore withstand additional attacks from the people affected by the chemical leak?

When unbelievably sized hail falls from the sky in the aftermath of a "megatsunami," students on school buses seek shelter from the storm in a superstore called Greenway. From the TV they find in the Media Department, the fourteen kids learn their lives will never be the same again. A chemical leak has occurred and it causes varying side-effects depending on the exposed person's blood type. The kids have to work together despite their differences to survive in Greenway. What can go wrong?

This book is very easy to describe. It's a mix of Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer and Trapped by Michael Northrop. If you mixed the two books together, you would make Monument 14 with one or two slight changes. It was definitely on the easy side for me, a sophomore, and it was a bit boring but it was okay.

“We ate it like it was medicine. Like it was magic candy that could somehow restore us to a normal life again. We ate ourselves numb and got in our bags and went to sleep.
There was a lot of crying from the little kids and occasionally one of us would yell, "Shut up!"
That's how we got by, that first night.”

“Your mother hollers that you're going to miss the bus. She can see it coming down the street. You don't stop and hug her and tell her you love her. You don't thank her for being a good, kind, patient mother. Of course not- you launch yourself down the stairs and make a run for the corner.
Only, if it's the last you'll ever see your mother, you sort of start to wish you'd stopped and did those things. Maybe even missed the bus.
But the bus was barreling down our street so i ran.”
