Second book in this series after Ice Princess. Not too simple or complex. All characters continue their growth very nicely. Really good read!

I enjoyed the story in this book more than her first book, The Ice Princess. It was much more complex and harder to follow b/c their were so many characters especially in the Hult family whom this book centers around. I read in someone else's review that it was recommended that you chart the characters and I which I had read that review before I started reading the book b/c it can be very confusing at times. I will keep that it mind for the third book, The StoneCutter b/c it is my understanding there are quite a few characters in that book as well.
The story has flashbacks that coincide with the murders of the girls that lend an interesting personal note and allow you to sympathize with the victims. This, as it has been said, is more of our protagonist Patrik's story then it is Erica's, who is at home pregnant, which is a little disappointing as I liked what Erica had to contribute in The Ice Princess. Again, looking forward to book three in this series.

Another enjoyable mystery from Camilla Lackberg. Patrik Hedstrom must work quickly to figure out what the link is between two skeletons and one newly dead body dumped in Fjallbacka because now another girl has gone missing. Good story, my only complaint would be that Patrik's partner, Erica has a very minor role in the story. Just because Erica is 8 months pregnant shouldn't mean she can't help out with the investigation! Oh well, looking forward to more books by this author.

A body is found in a cleft of some rocks on a hot summer morning and Patrik is up for the investigation if only to get out of the house. A very pregnant Erica and unwelcome house guests make the already hot summer season more uncomfortable. But when he gets to the crime scene, he finds that there are two more skeletons under the corpse. These lead to a cold case that was almost solved until the main suspect committed suicide. So is this a copy cat crime or was the suicide a hoax? Dredging into the depths of a strange family brings Patrik to one certain conclusion. Not only is he ready to take on the investigation but also the larger thing that are looming in his life - fatherhood.

In this sequel to "The Ice Princess", Lackberg once again tells a story about a horrible murder that soon leads to others....some new, some from the past. They seem to all revolve around a family that have long held a privileged position in society in this small Swedish town. Down at the police station, poor Patrik has his hands full. His usually boorish boss is acting strangely human, his girlfriend is 8 months pregnant, they're in the middle of a sweltering heat wave & the bodies just keep coming. Building on the first book, all the characters are back & story lines evolve well. My only criticism comes with Anna, Erica' sister, who can be annoying at times. All in all, a good thriller that keeps you reading as you just have to know how this convoluted plot plays out. Look forward to the next one.
