"From renowned cardiac surgeon Steven R. Gundry, MD, a revolutionary look at the hidden compounds in "healthy" foods like fruit, vegetables, and whole grains that are causing us to gain weight and develop chronic disease. Plants actually have an impressive array of defense tactics to protect themselves from predators of all shapes and sizes--including humans. Dr. Stephen Gundry explains that these defense strategies make the seemingly virtuous plants that we consume every day--fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and seeds--far less "good for us" than we assume."

Interesting If I had a severe medical problem, I would try it. Seems like a radical eating program.

Discoveries only he has made!? Oh, and he sells supplements too . . .
I think this guy is probably a quack - I hope so because is approach is so restrictive, how could anyone follow it?

I like this author and this book. I recommend learning it's lessons. Most of us have heard of gluten--a protein found in wheat that causes widespread inflammation in the body. Americans spend billions of dollars on gluten-free diets in an effort to protect their health. But what if we've been missing the root of the problem? In The Plant Paradox, renowned cardiologist Dr. Steven Gundry reveals that gluten is just one variety of a common, and highly toxic, plant-based protein called lectin. Lectins are found not only in grains like wheat but also in the "gluten-free" foods most of us commonly regard as healthy, including many fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and conventional dairy products. These proteins, which are found in the seeds, grains, skins, rinds, and leaves of plants, are designed by nature to protect them from predators (including humans). Once ingested, they incite a kind of chemical warfare in our bodies, causing inflammatory reactions that can lead to weight gain and serious health conditions.

Kindle immersion read.
Skip the audio and go right for the copy, of which I highlighted much of.
For anyone suffering from leaky gut caused by chronic inflammation, food allergies, or an autoimmune disease, this book is for you.
Dr. Gundry describes in detail the causes mentioned above and how to remove them for better long-term health, offering a few recipes at the end.
Food is medicine, medicine is food, (depending on its source and how it is prepared.)

The basic premise here is that plants protect themselves and their seed-offspring with a protein called lectins (think gluten) These can make you sick --- either short term or long term. These sicknesses ranging from sore tummy to a whole gamut of chronic conditions. And that's just the first half of the book. The second half tells us how to avoid these conditions by removing certain specific food from our diets. As MD Gundry would say: it's not what we should eat but what we shouldn't eat. Here's a brief outtake of what the good doctor says we shouldn't eat:pasta, rice, potatoes, peas, legumes, peanuts, tomatoes, cheese, corn. Well, you get the message.
The book includes lots of anecdotes illustrating the relationship between "cure" and his diet. Convincing? Enticing? You'll have to find out for yourself. But be warned, we've seen (fad) diets dome and go --- lots of them. As for me, it's not a diet I'll be following any time soon --- it seems all my favorite foods are bent on killing be. For the last 70 years they've failed miserably at accomplishing their goal.

this book is straight up fake science. He shows no real evidence for his outlandish claims and for his expensive product line. He even claims lectins are the cause of cancer, which there is some real research showing lectin protein may contribute to cellular protection from cancer.
The best I'd say about his anti-vegetable, anti-fruit, anti-legume diet is it might cause a placebo effect is true believers and it will remind us all that we should not eat raw pinto beans! (95% of
lectin toxin is removed from legumes when they are boiled for 30 minutes like your mom taught).

Feel better in 3 days and then better and betTER and BETTER!! Great book. It works!

Definitively read this book. Or even better, listen to it, because it is much easer to “digest” this newest and hottest diet on the market. I am confused and you will be too. Do your reasearch before you start any drastic change first.

And keep this quote on your mind:
“Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint. “
Mark Twain

“Moderation in all things.” That is my mantra and I hope it’s yours too.

The pitfalls of food these days seem too numerous to contemplate, however this book is a sound read with information we should probably all be aware of.
