Agatha is pregnant and works part-time stocking shelves at a grocery store in a ritzy London suburb, counting down the days until her baby is due. As the hours of her shifts creep by in increasing discomfort, the one thing she looks forward to at work is catching a glimpse of Meghan, the effortlessly chic customer whose elegant lifestyle dazzles her. Meghan has it all: two perfect children, a handsome husband, a happy marriage, a stylish group of friends, and she writes perfectly droll confessional posts on her popular parenting blog--posts that Agatha reads with devotion each night as she waits for her absent boyfriend, the father of her baby, to maybe return her calls. When Agatha learns that Meghan is pregnant again, and that their due dates fall within the same month, she finally musters up the courage to speak to her, thrilled that they now have the ordeal of childbearing in common. Little does Meghan know that the mundane exchange she has with a grocery store employee during a hurried afternoon shopping trip is about to change the course of her not-so-perfect life forever.

Dual story lines collide into the worst possible outcome...

Agatha’s life is a challenge - she has a menial job, a terrible boss, an uncertain love life, and no family support. Things are looking up however; she is finally pregnant and once she has her new baby in her arms, all her troubles will be in the past. Conversely, Meghan leads a seemingly charmed life - she has a successful blog, an enviable address, a handsome husband, two gorgeous children, with an unexpected bonus on the way. But all is not as rosy as it first appears and Meghan has her own troubles to worry about.

One day Agatha and Meghan’s paths cross, and neither of their lives are ever the same again.

Pros: Concise chapters, with alternating POV’s from Agatha and Meghan. This format keeps the story moving along nicely.

Cons: Very predictable...

Unfortunately I could see the ending a mile off...The Secrets She Keeps is actually quite well written, just nothing too exciting about it.

3 stars

Fast paced dialogue typical of this author and has you quickly engrossed in the story. However I found some of his religious bashing to be unwarranted, definitely not factual and no bearing on the plot. Leaves you wondering if he is suffering from his own personal vendetta . Needs to get his facts straight before he writes this stuff. Shame as the rest of the plot is plausible.

Michael Robotham told me he read a lot of mummy blogs to write this book.

Well written book with plenty of excitement and action.

I was really disappointed in this book. Maybe OK for a beach read but I found it didn’t have much depth yo it.

It was a well-written and emotional story. Not as engaging as his previous novels. I read it one sitting (late night, however!). I was a little disappointed, to be honest.

This was definitely a page-turner. The plot intertwined the two protaganists into a beautifully scripted psychological story. I was completely drawn into the lives of the two women, Meghan and Agatha. The latter is destined to deal with the inability to have a child, along with the struggles she experiences from this. Meghan is the 'lucky' one and Agatha is the long-suffering victim of infertility and other traumatic incidents that occur. A book well worth reading.

This is a detour from the Jo O'loughlin series and is quite an interesting read. It is not until halfway through the story that you find out what is really going on.

An enjoyable read with an exciting story. The ending was so-so but the book was fast paced and the troubled character, Agatha, was interesting. I'll read more of this author's books.

A psychological thriller surrounding the disappearance of a baby. A great read.
