One of the top ten bestselling novels ever written with more than 32 million copies sold! This record-shattering New York Times bestseller was Barbara Taylor Bradford's breakout novel. It tells the story of a determined woman who will face betrayal from those closest to her, as well as the loss of a great love, only to emerge triumphant. From the servants' quarters of a manor house on the brooding Yorkshire moors to the helm of a profitable international business, Emma Harte's life is a sweeping saga of unbreakable spirit and resolve. Rising from abject poverty to glittering wealth at the upper echelons of society, there is only one man the indomitable Emma cannot have--and only one she yearns for. The novel was also the subject of a popular 1984 miniseries starring Jenny Seagrove and Deborah Kerr.

I 1st read this 50 yrs ago and I recall feeling vaguely dissatisfied. I found it hard to wholeheartedly love and admire the protagonist. I can't recall if it was because she was too cold-hearted or due to my inability to empathize. It seemed altogether too much like a romance

This was given to me by my boyfriend mother, it is one of her favorites. She describes it as one of the things she would grab if the house was burning down, she has read it countless times! And I have to agree! It was amazing and one of my favorites. Very difficult to put down, so if you need a good one. I would read this one!

Read this book years ago. I dont know why, but its about the only book that left an imprint on me. Loved the way it started with her thinking back to when she was younge. Emma started with nothing and became a powerful, influencial, loved person! Also, I like that Emma Harte collection is a series books. One more thing, Emma had enemies! :D

Great audio series. I loved following Emma through her life. Read or listen to all three. Good vacation read.

This book was long but very well written - and not too racey either, which is a nice change. The ending leaves you wanting more.

I first read this book about 20 years ago and had the chance to revisit it this month. It is an entertaining read devoid of gratuitous sex details.
