Movie promoter Lawrence Woolsey bring his unique brand of flashy showmanship to the unsuspecting residents of Key West, Florida. Fifteen-year-old fan Gene Loomis can't wait for Woolsey's arrival, who is in town to promote his latest offering of atomic power gone berserk. His vision takes on a sudden urgency as the Cuban Missile Crisis places the real threat of atomic horror just 90 miles off the coast.

As one who loves bad sci-fi/creature films from the 50s & 60s, it was an entertaining film. It did well to capture the well deserved hysteria of living in Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis, while keeping the laughs (ok, chuckles) coming.

The worst movie John Goodman acted in. Good to see Jesse White after all these years

Matinee contrasts a B-horror movie premiere in Key West, Florida with the true terror of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It could have been better, but I liked how it celebrated the experience of moviegoing. Blink and you'll miss Naomi Watts in a very early role; she is in one of the movies-within-the-movie that the kids see. Matinee is rated PG for language, mild violence and sensuality.
