For those readers out there looking for a creative, different type of genre/book to read, you will find this delightful, witty, captivating book a gem. I picked this up on whim, looking for something other than the usual murder/suspense book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the delightful character development and the storyline.

I view a lot of the Booklist review of The Chalk Artist as specious. However, I didn’t read the book from an “intriguing” intention and result aspect. I read it for pleasure and enjoyed it. I found the descriptions - of the people, the gaming venues and avatars, the weather, yes, the weather, the classroom and each milieu mentioned - both stirring and poetic.
