I really really like this book. I thought Olivia would be a sweet little girl when you met her in the first book. But, no, she is a killing machine. That was what really shock me.

Avenged is a story that revolves around kings and queens who are struggling for power, peace and love. Being the sequel to Ruined, many of the characters in Avenged are the same, though there are new characters introduced. I particularly enjoyed the character development of Aren and Olivia throughout the course of the novel. It is definitely interesting to see how Olivia and Emelina’s conflicting ideas affect their relationship and the ones around them. At one point, the novel does get a bit tiring to read as the characters always seem to be travelling from one place to another. Nonetheless, the story is well-paced.
Another important part of this novel is its magic. Magic plays a great role developing the action and violence that occurs in the story.
Although I prefer reading stories written from first-person perspective, I felt that Tintera has been extremely effective in telling this story through third-person point-of-view.
Overall, Avenged will be an enjoyable-read to those have an interest in YA fantasies.
A great installment to Ruined.

Avenged didn’t meet the standards of the first book in the series, but it definitely wasn’t a horrible book. Unlike Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, this wasn’t the case of a sequel improving upon a first book. My main problem with this book was the brutal harshness and unrealistic portrayal of Olivia, Emelina’s sister. Her rash desire to kill was not intelligently executed as Lada from And I Darken, rather abundantly infuriating. Alongside her sister and fellow Ruined, Emelina’s home Ruina is not what anyone expected. Forced to live in miner cabins, it is almost a relief when the Olso prince August arrives with aid and a marriage proposal. Meanwhile King Casimir struggled to pull his kingdom together, and is instead banished to a room while his cousin acts as queen. When he is poisoned, however, he sets off with his trusted guards only to come across Emelina, and set every emotion back into turmoil. A fair novel and definitely had me finishing it in one sitting!
