I enjoyed this story. It was very entertaining and was a real page-turner. The only downside was that the beginning was very hard to understand at first. Levine writes it like the main character, Peregrine, was telling her story from birth to current. Overall, the book was awesome.

This is a fun, exciting fantasy adventure about an interesting and complex heroine. I have enjoyed Gail Carson Levine's other fantasy books and this one did not disappoint. Perry wasn't always likeable and doesn't always make good decisions, but she learns and grows throughout the book. This was a fairly fast read, with some twists and turns, and I enjoyed the Rapunzel-like echoes in this story.

This is an amazing, well written story that is a good read whether or not you've read The Two Princesses of Bammare. As it's own book, it has an amazing story loosely taken from Rapunzel with solid, developed characters. As a prequel, it is still all that plus the addition of the connections to Drualt and other elements of Bammare.

A new Gail Carson Levine book! Set in the same universe as The Two Princesses of Bamarre, which was one of my fave books as a kid! So many exclamation points! Anyway, I super enjoyed this, and the themes of prejudice and discrimination and oppression feel extremely timely without seeming heavy-handed. Nothing she writes will ever, for me, top Ella Enchanted, which is a perfect book and one of my top five all-time favorites, but I really, really liked this.
