As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.

A five star must-see movie! Wonderful to watch and a story that needed to be told!

Fabulous movie. Brilliantly acted by all concerned, Octavia Spencer shines as always. I simply had no idea what went on at NASA re: 'computers'. I laughed and I cried very real tears: if you only watch one movie this year, you owe it to yourself to make this IT.

I loved this movie and would highly recommend it. Great actresses representing the work going on at NASA. Was not award that women were working at NASA during this time period.
Very informative!! Good Job!

Great movie ... spectacular acting!

"The lessons we don't learn from history ... are bound to be our repeated failures in the future" ... this movie puts a message there for us to learn from.

I'm reading the book right now and both the movie and book are important to experience and learn from. The book goes into so much detail with so many more characters than the movie that it is almost overwhelming but gives a very good historical perspective from way before the movie starts. The movie compresses characters and timelines to be able to capture more of the essence and emotions of the time. Both are valid and important ways to learn of this history that was hidden until now (thus the title). Wonderful acting and I thought the story was well constructed so that the emotional arc is satisfying. That said, that meant that the real facts and timeline were given artistic license. Anyway, what I'm saying is watch the movie and read the book both for the full picture.

Too bad not much has changed since the period depicted in this movie. A familiar experience of a visible minority in this city. The movie was too close to home for me, it made me cry. It was as if my story was being told. I hope and pray for a better tomorrow.
A less judgmental world where people are valued for their humanness and not what some people perceive you should be, and mistreat you accordingly.
It is tough to be 'different', especially here where racism is not as blatant as in the US. At least you know where you stand in the US because people say it to your face.
Every positive action we take makes the world a better place. What are you contributing into promoting equality and equity? Please don't keep quiet, we as strong as our weakest link.
Thank you.

I was excited to see this movie when we first heard about it, but shortly after I read an article about the true history of the program along with original photos of the group of women who took part and was very disappointed that Hollywood tried to make it their own story. All the women involved deserved a better representation of the fine work they did for the Space Program.

I was very impressed by all aspects of this movie. The acting was wonderful, as was the attention to historical detail. A wonderful film about amazing women in a very difficult time. It's good to see that they are finally getting the recognition they all so richly deserve.

Many excellent quotes in IMDb and of course from its book at goodreads .... this classic gem appeared in the film but not in the book:

Despite what you may think, I have nothing against y'all.
- I know, I know you probably believe that.
