The fantastic journey of Belle, a bright and independent young woman who takes her father's place as the prisoner of a beast in his castle. As Belle befriends the castle's enchanted staff, she and the Beast slowly begin to look beyond their initial reactions to each other and see who they truly are. But back in Belle's village, her father's fears for her safety drive him to rally the villagers to free Belle from the castle--a plan that goes awry, with dangerous consequences, when Belle's would-be suitor Gaston twists the rally into a mob and leads an attack on the castle.

Soulless and distressing, with lots of uncanny valley animations and bland facial expressions (and a snobby snarky look from Belle that makes her seem sarcastic and uninterested). I had no idea if I would like this remake or not since I had heard reviews from friends on both ends of the spectrum. I loved it! I was suprised how much I liked Emma Watson as Belle. I thought the special effects were spectacular. I loved the story of Belle's mother added to this remake. I tho... Read More »

Soulless and distressing, with lots of uncanny valley animations and bland facial expressions (and a snobby snarky look from Belle that makes her seem sarcastic and uninterested). The songs lack the heart of the original; the servants are manipulative jailkeepers willing to throw Belle into lockdown to keep her in the castle; the Beast is not an agent in his own story--he doesn't show her to her room, he doesn't invite her to dinner, he doesn't carefully consider what sort of gift she would like; the town doesn't even seem to LIKE Gaston since LeFou has to bribe them to sing; the dress is boring; why is the enchantress still here; the camera angles are flat and unimaginative for a fantasy film, being mostly long shots; Beast's magical book is like the most unnecessary thing ever; and "THE PLAGUE."

I fell in love with this movie the first time I watched it and have rewatched it several times. The visuals are stunning, and the CGI is outstanding in this movie! The sets and costumes are very well detailed, and the cast is brilliant. It’s great that Disney kept the original songs from the 1991 movie and reimagined them in a way to fit with the new things they added such as a new trait in a character’s personality or their appearance. The new songs are as equally beautiful as the originals, and the actors and actresses perform them very well. However, I wished that they had reduced the amount of autotune on Emma Watson’s voice as she sounds a bit robotic here and there. It was also great that Disney answered questions people had from the 1991 film in the storyline as we get to better understand the characters and their motives (eg. who is Belle’s mother?). The blu-ray bonuses are fantastic too as we get to see what went on behind the cameras and offset as well as deleted scenes and the incredible people who made the film possible. 5/5 stars.

I couldn't honestly understand what the excitement for this movie is. If you close your eyes it is the EXACT same movie as the cartoon - pretty much word for word, sound effect for sound effect. I actually found the characters more engaging in the original cartoon and the CGI (especially for the beast's face) just came across as campy.

Out of all the Disney remakes out there, this one has to be probably the best one for me. Emma Watson's role as Belle was so well-done, there was no other young actress I would've pictured in that role. And she has a great singing voice as well. Dan Stevens as the Beast was probably the most fledged out character in the whole movie. His solo towards the end of the film was so inspiring, I sang that song in my head over and over again. Everyone else fit their roles perfectly. And it follows the story of the original film to perfection. And the new variations of the original's songs were fun too (especially Belle). Might wanna keep the credits rolling for Celine Dion, Ariana Grande and John Legend, and Josh Groban's inspiring songs. A great Disney film for everyone who loves the original.

The second half had more to offer, probably because most of the second half had original material. I think the movie was okay for that reason. Otherwise, kindof unnecessary, some jokes and dialogue that kids wouldn't get. So basically: Beauty+Beast for those who know the original. Also just seems like it tried a bit too hard to outdo the original or for whatever reason remakes of Disney movies are attempted. Disney shouldn't make any more remakes unless they are going to take creative and original initiative.

Don't bother watching this one; just watch the original instead.

I'm not a huge fan of Disney musicals but my wife wanted to see it. I have to say, I quite enjoyed it.
