The book starts with Hitsugaya confronting Gin. Hinamori appears before Hitsugaya. Hitsugaya thinks that Hinamori will help him but she tells him about Aizen’s last note. Hitsugaya tries to convince her that Aizen would not say something like that but Hinamori doesn’t think straight. Hitsugaya knocks her out and fights Gin. They both stop soon after since Hitsugaya’s assistant captain Matsumoto appears and saves Hinamori from Gin’s attack. Later, it shows that Ichigo still hasn’t achieved bankai and that Rukia’s execution has been moved to the next day. Rukia is thinking about her past and trying to strengthen her resolve. She thinks about how she killed a best friend of her past. The ex-assistant captain to her squad. That man was Kaien Shiba and he was one of Rukia’s idols. She comes to the conclusion that she is not worth shedding blood over. Kenpachi frees Uryu, Chad, and Ganju so that they can help him find Ichigo. Kenpachi is stopped during his search by Captain Tosen and Captain Komamura. Ikkaku and Yumichika take the two assistant captains away. The fight begins. At the end of the book Renji is stopped by his captain, Byakuya, on his way to saving Rukia. 3/5. @GOATreviews of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
