In 1347, a year of conflict and unrest, Thomas of Hookton returns to England to pursue the Holy Grail. Among the flames of the Hundred Years War, a sinister enemy awaits the fabled archer and mercenary soldier: a bloodthirsty Dominican Inquisitor who also seeks Christendom's most holy relic. But neither the horrors of the battlefield nor sadistic torture at the Inquisitor's hands can turn Thomas from his sworn mission. And his thirst for vengeance will never be quenched while the villainous black rider who destroyed everything he loved still lives. From internationally acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell comes the spellbinding second chapter in his Grail Quest--the majestic epic adventure of duty, war, and destiny that began with The Archer's Tale.

This novel has everything we've come to expect of a Cornwell novel. Thomas of Hookton is on the trail of the holy grail. HBe is set upon by many enemies --- worst of all, his dark cousin Guy of Vexille --- of that branch of the Vexilles expelled from the south of France for heresy. They are reputed to have taken the grail with them and as a Vexille himself, Thomas the archer, our protagonist and hero is in danger because Guy Vexille is certain Thomas has the grail or at the ery least knows of its whereabouts.

Lot's of violence, blood, dismemberment and other goodies including an episode where Thomas comes to attention of the Inquisition.

A real page-turner.

Continuing story of Thomas of Hookton, the Archer -- set in the 100 year war --
This quickly becomes the hunt for the Grail...
such a good story -- I could not put it down -I read all three books in a heartbeat (or so it seemed) I want more.
