I felt the subject matter of witches and how it was imaginatively used was the strength of this story. I liked the romance element and enjoyed the strength and warmth of the two main women characters.

The two beautiful sisters Franny and Jet will grow up to be the revered, and sometimes feared, aunts in Practical Magic, while Vincent, their beloved brother, will leave an unexpected legacy. Thrilling and exquisite, real and fantastical, The Rules of Magic is a story about the power of love reminding us that the only remedy for being human is to be true to yourself. I can't say anything better myself. Wonderfully written and a joy to read.

This was an exceptional story of family devotion, loss, fear and redemption, set in fairly modern times and within a family of witches. An amazing read with sturdy characters and a robust story line.

An intense read full of very interesting characters. The book was so well written that I felt like I could totally envision Aunt Isabelle's home and garden, she made her magic come alive. Although there was a lot of heartbreak and tragedy there were such strong bonds between the characters and the story kept me page turning to find out what's happening next.

Just finished this great book! I have never read Practical Magic so I was excited to be able to start with the prequel. It took me about 50 pages until I was fully hooked. I love how sentimental these characters are and loyalty they have for one another. I shed many tears by the end! I loved it.

I feel like this book had a lot of potential and was very close to being amazing, but it was slightly lacking and definitely moved too slowly.

I love Practical magic.. so I was really excited to read this prequel to story. It was okay.
I enjoyed learning more about the characters and how the curse effected the aunts. but it was a little slow for me in some places.

Loved it! But I love anything she writes. Such a rich family history, connection, and deep abiding love between these characters. Definitely worth a read if you can put your head in the clouds. Dysfunctional and lovely. I’d definitely recommend to friends I think would appreciate the story.
