Ira Levinson is in trouble. At ninety-one years old and alone in the world, he finds himself stranded on an isolated embankment after a car crash. Suffering multiple injuries, he struggles to retain consciousness until a blurry image materializes and comes into focus beside him: his beloved wife, Ruth, who passed away nine years ago. Urging him to hang on, she forces him to remain alert by reminiscing about their lifetime together. Ira knows that Ruth can't possibly be in the car with him, but he clings to her words and his memories. A few miles away, at a local bull-riding event, a Wake Forest University senior's life is about to change. Recovering from a recent breakup, Sophia Danko meets a young cowboy named Luke. Through Luke, Sophia is introduced to a world in which the stakes are high: reward and ruin-and even life and death-loom large in everyday life. As she and Luke fall in love, Sophia finds herself imagining a future far removed from her plans-if the secret Luke's keeping doesn't destroy it first. Ira and Ruth. Sophia and Luke. Two couples who have little in common and who are separated by years and experience. Yet their lives will converge with unexpected poignancy, reminding us all that even the most difficult decisions can yield extraordinary journeys.

As always, Nicholas Sparks takes us to the South and spins a wonderful tale. He does not disappoint in this story. I enjoyed the movie, but (as usually happens) I liked the book even more.

I liked how he tied up the ending. The paintings that were bought with love, ended up with a person “who Understood.”

This was my strategy to read this book.
I was engaged at the beginning of the book, then the story of Luke and Sophia started and I was not impressed. It was like being a fly on the wall in a high school classroom. I didn’t find substance in what I was reading.
So, I decided to read the book in a different way.
First: I read the end! Yes! I wanted to find out the connection between the young and the old couple.
Second: I read all the chapters of Ira and Ruth.
Third: I read all the chapters regarding Luke and Sophia.

The Longest Ride is a great piece of literature. It's about a girl in her early-twenties meeting a man that she loves. At the same time, a old man Ira gets into a car crash. His dead wife visits him in different ages as they go down memory lane together. I like this book because it's a sweet novel to read under a tree in a park during summer. It has romance and a bit of drama. A well written, interesting book.

Easy read that keeps you interested. The love story is touching and the way the 2 stories connected at the end made it even better. Ira and Ruth's story was captivating and warm. Recommend!!

Admittedly, the title of the book and the book's cover were unappealing to me, but the book kept showing up on recommended book lists. Since I needed a book for a long weekend trip, I grabbed this audiobook off the shelves and immediately became involved with all the characters. Because I only had a one week check-out, I would listen to the book and forgo everything else. If you're a sucker for romance and some bull riding stories thrown in, you'll enjoy the story of Luke and Sophia. If you've been married a while, then you'll relate to Ira and Ruth. As with most romance novels, the ending has a nice neat bow tied to it. To romance fans, I recommend this book.

p. 26 Ruth talking to Ira: “you are attractive because your heart is still beautiful. Your eyes are still kind, and you are a good an honest man. This is enough to keep you beautiful forever.”

"Have you ever been in love?"
"I'm not sure."
"If you are not sure, then you probably weren't."
