From horror master Clive Barker comes this chilling nightmare featuring the first appearance of the hideous, demonic Pinhead. When Kirsty Cotton's family moves into their ancestral home, they are terrorized by the resurrected corpse of her uncle, who requires the flesh of murdered innocent victims in order to become whole and alive again. A creepy, thrillingly perverse tale straddling heaven and hell, extreme pleasure and unbearable pain, HELLRAISER will haunt your dreams.

Cenobites here.... Cenobites there.... Cenobites, Cenobites everywhere!

Yeah. OK. I know full-well that the 3 vicious Cenobites featured in this hell-bound horrorshow were supposed to be unfathomably "s-c-a-r-y". But, for the most part - I found this terrorizing trio to be about as frightening as are the Three Stooges. I ain't kidding here.

And (IMO) - Perhaps if these 3 hellboys had actually resorted to the likes of some genuine face slaps, eye-pokes, and, yes, an occasional custard pie in the kisser - It would've certainly been a helluva lot more entertaining to watch than was all of the silly/nasty "We're so evil" nonsense that director/writer, Clive Barker had foisted into my face. Yes. Indeed.

Hellraiser is a pretty good horror film directed by Clive Barker. It's very well directed, colorful, has decent writing, and is well made.
It's not the best horror film ever, but it's still pretty good, and the Cenobites are really cool. I understand why it's a classic, and I do recommend it.

One of the best horror movies. a must see

One of the best films in the horror genre during the 1980's. Anyone going into this movie expecting to see cgi or other modern speial effects, they will not like this. The effects are state of the art for when the movie was made.

Doug Bradley does a fantastic Pinhead and HE has made the character one of the real Giants of the genre.

Hellraiser...5 Stars. It deserves nothing less.

The feature debut of horror writer Clive Barker, this is plenty gruesome, but nor particularly scary or compelling. Followed by many sequels.

I watched the movie about 25 years ago. The movie is more gory than scary.

An entertaining 25 year old horror, somewhat laughable, but deserving of credit for its (Clive Barker's) originality, and the onslaught of sequels it's spawned. All this because of a horny, pinched-faced cougar. Jeez! And while we're at it, am I the only one who found it strange that they treated the dingy, rat infested spare room as if it was commonplace? I felt like yelling at Dad (Larry): "You know that dingy, rat infested spare room down the hall? That doesn't bother you, huh? Doesn't it seem KINDA CREEPY to you?!?! Don't you think you should, um, maybe, investigate or something? ...Call a contractor, or an exterminator, perhaps? ...HELLO!?!"

This has to be one of the most horrifying and imaginative horror movies in my collection. Clive Barker's mind is amazing creating creatures called "Cenobites." PinHead,ButterBall,Chatterer, and Female cenobite (sister Nikoletta) are some of the most grotesque looking characters i have ever seen. I love the story and the music is just right for this frightfest. My favorite scene is when Kirsty, who's in a hospital, begans playing with the cube. She opens it and one of the walls in her room opens to reveal a long hallway. While Kirsty is walking down this hallway, you can hear the sounds of a baby crying. You'll love the way it sounds on your system. Also listen to the sounds of the chains ratteling in the Cenobites first apperance. I give this movie 5stars!!! For Gore, Story, Music, Sound Effects, Julia, Frank, and of course The Cenobites!!! Hamburgers and fries with plenty of ketchup and friut juice.

I have to disagree with the description (btw, who knows who writes the descriptions? Many of them are inaccurate). I am guessing this book is based on the movie, and if it is, either the book is an "Engrish" version (meaning, not really based on the movie at all) or the description was written by someone who has never seen the movie. First of all, Pinhead is NOT a zombie, he is a cenobyte (he was once a man and died and is now a demon of sorts). Second, Pinhead is not partially resurrected by a drop of blood, but "Frank" is, and it is Frank who forces his sister in law to kill for him. Watch the movie first- it's probably much better than the book anyway. You can buy it at HMV or future shop, or request the VPL get it if you really want to see it, as it is a Clive Barker classic.

Hellraiser is a late 80s horror movie that I remember seeing posters for when I was a kid, but back then there was not a snowballs chance in hell that I would have watched it cause I was a big fraidy cat back then. But now that I am all bearded up and after seeing on the shelf on the library I thought I would give it a shot. I will give Clive Barker this, he made a very creepy and gross film. The amount of blood and gore were still not fun to look at but the story and concept were interesting, and pinhead looks very ouchy? I know that is not a real word but it fits. All in all, Hellraiser is good for what it is, but it gave me no real desire to continue on in the series, plus, if anyone ever gives you a weird looking puzzle box, do yourself a favor and don’t try and open it, just trust me on this.
