Alternative title could have been: "How to REALLY make America Great Again, instead of decimating all the norms and ideals that decent people appreciate about America". But I digress. Rather (one of my media heroes for all he did covering Presidents Johnson and Nixon, and the Civil Rights movement for CBS) remains cautiously optimistic despite all the negativity...while still pointing out the validity of negative sentiment. And never names the source of most negativity...but it's between many lines.

There are some pretty crazy comments far below. Not sure what any of them have to do with the book?

Inspiring, beautiful and a breath of fresh air during these tense times.

Written with gentle humility yet alight with passionate conviction, this book is an encouraging read for anyone (left or right) who is disappointed with the way things currently are in the United States. Through the lens of 5 American virtues - Freedom, Community, Exploration, Responsibility, and Character - Rather examines the country as he has experienced it, applauding where he has seen us do well and pointing out where we still have room to grow. Rather's writing voice is pleasant and engaging, and the organization of the book covers a wide array of American values, some of which are fresh and engaging: for instance, in the section titled Exploration, Rather offers three short essays (Science, Books, and The Arts) that examine the American spirit of learning and creating. Although Rather defines himself as a liberal, the care in which he presents his views makes this a book that crosses party aisles; it encourages all Americans to stand side by side and move toward our Constitution's description of a "more perfect union."

Speaking as a lifelong radical progressive, I despise the King of Fake News, Dan Rather. He was the one, lest anyone forget, who lied repeatedly and vociferously about the Kennedy assassination, being one of the // select few \\ allowed to first view the Zapruder film, Rather would lie consistently, claiming that the president's head snapped forward - - as if from a rear kill shot - - instead of snapping backwards followed by a backward blood spray as a chunk of his brain flew back on the limo's trunk!
Which is probably how he came to receive the CBS anchor job, which was easily lost to him when he and his pathetic producer fell for a simply scam to confuse and bewilder the populace: Rather focused on Geo. W. Bush missing those ANG formations, which of course wasn't the REAL STORY - - which was the fact that Bush NEVER qualifed as either an officer or a pilot - - but of course Rather was incapable of ever digging up, or breaking, any Real News!

Just take a look at this, then ponder whether Rather was any kind of real journalist:
The first is typically cleverly edited, and recent, cutting out when Lee Oswald begins pleading for legal representation at a midnight press conference:

The next one is the complete, unedited version showing Oswald repeatedly pleading for legal representation, which he never received [also never received is one phone call, which in his case, the telephone number went to his emergency CIA contact]:

The final one, is when Rather is much younger and he and only several others were permitted to view the Zapruder film of President Kennedy's assassination, and Rather proceeds to lie his butt off, claiming JFK's head snapped fowards, when years later the viewing public would finally view JFK's head snapping backwards from the front kill shot:

AND CONTRADICTING Rather's report:

[Rather lied for millions of dollars; he lied about the assassination of President Kennedy, he brazenly lied when discussing the assassination of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. [I am unsure of what his probable lies were about Sen. Kennedy's death, I had given up on him by that point] - - and lying on behalf of the murderers of these men was the vilest, treasonous behavior possible, and Rather did it for the money!]
