Riveting. Wonderful use of blank verse. Splendid acting. What a pity that Piggott-Smith is no longer with us!

My favorite scene: Charles, in full regalia, pounding with his scepter on the enormous door...boom, boom, boom...bickering stops, heads turn, and he rushes past them down the aisle and dissolves Parliament!

Wow. Really enjoyed this television adaptation of the play "Charles III". Great visualization of a theater piece's family drama and political upmanship. Loved the verse and other devices used in the dialogue. Terrific performances. Fascinating.

Surprisingly bad production and wooden acting.

Enjoyed this DVD. Acting was first class by all involved and the plot is believable and intelligent. Undertones of Shakespeare are present throughout. Could the events portrayed happen? Maybe, and that's what makes this entertaining. 88 minutes long which pass all too quickly.

Interesting Masterpiece theater production based on a stage play about the death of Queen Elizabeth II (currently aged 91) and the succession of her son Charles (currently aged 68) to the throne of England. I don’t want to give away the plot line, but the story was very interesting to me since QEII is the only British monarch known to me and her succession will likely happen during our lifetime. Starts with an issue of politics (how involved should the monarchy be in politics in this day and age?). It then looks at the royal family. Prince Harry is portrayed as a carefree playboy. Prince William acknowledging his royal duties – his wife Katherine played as a rather scheming, ambitious wife and King Charles . . . an aging old school Prince who literally waits a lifetime for his succession to the throne. Charles and the Princes have Diana flashbacks. The DVD plays out a bit shockingly, but makes you wonder what will become of the British monarchy? Is it totally out of date? Should be updated or replaced by something more current? Is it a beloved British institution that will be perpetuated? Time will tell. The DVD is well done and worthy of contemporary consideration.

Very inventive interpretation of a "what if" Britain's royal family scenario. Fanciful to be sure (Kate channeling Lady Macbeth?!) but based just enough on current events to be thought provoking and entertaining. The use of blank verse deliberately harkens Shakespeare and gives the play (and this filmed version) a strangely compelling resonance. Very sad that Tim Piggot-Smith passed away a few months ago. He was fantastic as the evil Merrick in The Jewel in the Crown many years ago. Great loss for the acting world.

As seen on PBS, this is an excellent foretelling about what might happen in the British royal family after the death of Queen Elizabeth I. Very Shakespearean-----not so much the dialogue, but the family drama, fortunately without beheadings. And there's even a ghostly appearance by Princess Diana. Very well acted and believable.
