Lots of action, thin plot, one quick gruesome torture scene, an okay movie.

Found this to be no better than countless other testosterone infused action pictures with the thinnest of plot lines. American Assassin should not be confused with the proverbial "thinking man's movie." Additional thought - how ridiculous at the end to have what looks like more US naval hardware floating around than was at the Battle of Midway.

O'Brian was great, Keaton role was not believable then needed another actor to pull that off. Great story of the making of an assassin.

Fantastic movie. As good as the book. It's all about how Mitch Rapp started with the CIA

Be prepared this is an action movie from the start but it has very good actors acting in a plot that you can follow and enjoy. Great movie for the action buffs.

Movie was a good one I would have given it a 5 but I have not liked Michael Keaton since I saw him in Beetle Juice. In 2014 he got nominated for best actor in the movie Bird Man which I did not watch because of my dislike of him and from what I heard from friends I was lucky I skipped it because they all said it was a stinker of a movie.

American Assassin is based on a young man who lost his parents when he was younger and watches the love of his life be shot and killed. He then decides to hunt down the terrorists who performed the killing and later on, finds himself working with the CIA. I liked this movie a lot because I am a Dylan O'Brien fan and in all of his movies, he performs with a purpose of creating a meaningful movie. The movie's plot and action made it very amusing to watch. I also enjoyed the movie because even though he lost his purpose to life, he decided to bounce back and give life one more chance. I recommend this movie for anyone from the age of 15 and older to watch this. If I had to rate this movie, I would give it a 8.5/10.

Dylan O'Brien just did not have the persona as an action star, not when he was younger in the Maze Runner series or showing more body hair here. Also, the opening sequence that changed Rapp’s path from a Grad student at an Ivy League University (Brown) to a ultimate precision weapon was a poor choice over author Vince Flynn’s ethos in the 2010 novel of the same name. With other strong characters as The Ghost and especially the legendary trainer Hurley (actor of actors Michael Keaton,) Rapp’s role as the protagonist diminished further as the testosterone soaked story progressed along. With that said, a good enough action spy watch.

Mitch Rapp: We are in beautiful Ibiza, Spain. Beautiful sand, beautiful waves. My favourite shorts and my favourite girl who is about to get... oh my God!

Katrina: Hey! Come on, give it to me!

Mitch Rapp: No, stop! Come on, come on...

Katrina: I'm serious.

Mitch Rapp: Oh, oh my God. That is so cute.

As far as he's concerned, you're sending him a Section 8 with an ax to grind.
-What happened to that kid on the beach, it changed him. You can't train that into someone. His psych profile is exactly what I've been looking for.
You saw those tests.
-Yeah, I saw them.
He's off the charts.
-I've seen off the charts before.
And he's got none of the bad habits he'd have to unlearn if -he had military training.
Come on, Stan. You drop one of your Navy SEALs in an urban setting, you can spot the boot camp on them a mile away.
Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie. There's your first mistake. You never start with a real question. You start slow. You get inside your subject's head.
-Stan, I'm gonna ask you one more time.
There's your second mistake. Number two. You don't say, "one more time." You already...

The book has a much more compelling life changing event for Rapp than the beach scene, From near the start of Chapter 1:

Or that the only way he could cope with the pain of losing the love of his life was to plot his revenge. That every single night before he went to sleep he thought of the network of faceless men who had plotted to bring down Pan Am Flight 103, that he saw himself on this very journey, headed to a remote place not dissimilar from the woods he now found himself in. It was all logical to him. Enemies needed to be killed, and Rapp was more than willing to become the person who would do that killing. He knew what was about to happen. He was to be trained, honed and forged into an ultimate precision weapon, and then he would begin to hunt them down. Every last one of the faceless men who had conspired to kill all those innocent civilians on that cold December night.
